My Father is a Smart Man
My father had a letter published in The Wall St. Journal:
There is no little irony in Mr. Gerstein's remark that "our party often seems to have trouble grasping that politics is a contact sport -- particularly when you are competing against folks as cunning and ruthless as Karl Rove. . . . we Democrats have to get over our predilection to preserve people's self-esteem at all costs. . . ." The campaign just ended was in fact the dirtiest in my memory (I first voted in the Nixon-Humphrey election), with the Democrats competing as ruthlessly as anyone. The president was lampooned as a "chimp," lied about by Michael Moore, denounced in direct terms ("incompetent") by Sen. Kerry, and subjected to unrelenting media bias, usually by publishing an overwhelming percentage of stories unfavorable to the administration while glossing over anything particularly harmful to Sen. Kerry. Contact sport problems are not the issue. The issue, which Democrats are simply psychologically incapable of focusing on, is that on many, many issues relating to our lives they are simply wrong.
His letter was in response to an editorial ("The Terry McAuliffe Syndrome") published January 11th, and written by one Dan Gerstein.
Could not have elucidated the Dem's problems better myself.
Your dad is indeed a smart man. Democrats allowed the extremist to take over their party.
Much of that has to do with the Democrats penchant for believing that the loudest voice was the truest voice and therefore a worthy cause.
It`s like they`re constantly trying to revive the glory days of the 60s when the civil rights movement was a loud and worthy voice.
Now however it`s the elitest who`re loud over any number of issues and rather than take the time to find out what the Democratic voters think they pick a loud "cause" paint it up, prop it up and present it as their platform.
I said a while back that I was actually concerned about the very real possibility of the Democratic party almost completely disappering over the next few years if they didn`t have a major overhaul.
I`m a Republican but my loyalty to America comes before any politics and if the Democratic party were to fade away into the sunset that wouldn`t be good for America. Who knows what rediculous new ideology might emerge to fill the void?
